The **HIV prevalence index** measures the proportion of **people aged 15–49** who are living with **HIV**.

- In **2012**, **Lesotho** had the highest prevalence rate at **24.6%** of the population.
- In the following years, both **Lesotho** and **Zimbabwe** saw a slight decline in their **HIV prevalence rates**.
- Meanwhile, rates in **South Africa** have remained relatively stable.
