# Labor force, total
The **"Labor force, total"** indicator measures the **total number of people** who are either **employed** or **actively seeking employment**, including both **men and women of working age**.
- **Employed**: those currently working for **pay or profit**.
- **Unemployed**: those **actively looking for work** but currently without a job.
It encompasses those currently working for pay or profit (**employed**) and those actively looking for work but currently without a job (**unemployed**).
